Pentlands

Angel's current biomanufacturing facilities are located at the Pentlands Science Park, near Edinburgh in Scotland. The facility is close to Edinburgh International Airport, offering direct links to major cities in Europe and the USA.

Angel’s GMP operations is licensed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) under the European Clinical Trials Directive (2001/20/EU). The licence, which has been accredited since July 2005, covers the manufacture of cellular therapies and stem cells for use in clinical trials. The Company also has a Manufacturers and Importers Authorisation for the Pentlands site allowing the manufacture to GMP of biopharmaceuticals for commercial sale.

The GMP manufacturing facility at the Pentlands site houses three independent cleanroom suites.  These suites are multipurpose and can be used alone or in combination to increase production capacity or segregate processes.

GMP suites

Tissue culture  

Features:

• the room is qualified to EU cGMP Class B;
• the room size total is 29.15m²;
• negative pressure containment room used primarily for cell culture work; and
• hot room.

Equipment:

• two Class II cabinets which are qualified to EU cGMP Class A;
• six incubators; and
• centrifuge.

Fermentation

Features:

• the room is qualified to EU cGMP Class C;
• the room size total is 19.14m²;
• negative pressure containment room used for upstream fermentation work; and
• 2 change areas.

Equipment:

• contains one Class II cabinet which is qualified to EU cGMP Class A;
• one shaker incubator; and
• 50 Litre New Brunswick fermenter.

Downstream processing

Features:

• the room is qualified to EU cGMP Class B;
• the room size total is 19.14m²;
• negative pressure containment room used for upstream fermentation work; and
• contains two change areas.

Equipment:

• contains two Class II cabinets which are qualified to EU cGMP Class A;
• AKTA pilot;
• centrifuge; and
• TFF – ultrafiltration and diafiltration.

Directions to Pentlands Science Park:

If travelling from the North or West on the M8, M9 or M90, join the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) heading in an easterly direction to the Lothianburn Junction.

There is a double roundabout as you leave the short exit road at which you should bear right onto the first roundabout and follow the sign marked All Other Routes to the second roundabout.

Take the second exit, which is signposted Carlisle, A702 (A79), Penicuik and Biggar.  Follow the A702 for approximately half a mile (past Hillend Ski Centre on your right) until you come to a Y junction.  Keep to the right hand lane (high road marked A702) for approximately two miles, turning left on unclassified road signposted Pentlands Science Park.

Follow the unclassified road for one mile, past the Edinburgh Technopole site and Bush Research Park to Pentlands Science Park.
