UK Department of Trade and Industry Consortium Angel became the manufacturing partner in a consortium awarded a grant from the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for stem cell development therapy. The £2.1 million grant is funding a 3-year stem cell bio-processing project entitled Therapeutic Products from Human Stem Cells. Angels key role within this is to establish the capability to manufacture stem cell banks to GMP standards for clinical trials and for their application as therapeutic products. Led by ReNeuron Ltd, the other consortium members include RegenTec Ltd, The Institute of Psychiatry and Kings College London. The aim of the project is to utilise the specific research, development and commercial expertise of the consortium members to develop and manufacture stem cell therapeutics for clinical and subsequent commercial application to address neurodegenerative diseases such as stroke, Huntingtons disease and Parkinsons disease. The potential for the products of this research is considerable and alongside other consortium members, we hope to be able to contribute to the development of successful clinical solutions to these important diseases. cGMP Autologous Cell Manufacture with Company Based in the USA In January 2006, Angel announced the signing of a significant cGMP contract with a USA based company. Under the contract, valued at US $0.8 million, Angel will manufacture and supply GMP materials for use in an autologous cell therapy in UK-based clinical trials. The cells will be used in a novel area of transplant medicine. The nature of the work is highly specialised and draws on Angel's core expertise in finding cGMP solutions for challenging projects. cGMP Cell Banking of Adult Stem Cell Line for Leading UK Stem Cell Therapy Company Earlier this year, Angel started work on the production of cGMP cell banks for ReNeuron, a leading player in the field of stem cell therapeutics. Under the contract Angel have completed the manufacture of a cGMP cell bank for ReNeurons ReN005 adult stem cell line for Huntingtons disease. This contract has recently been extended to include additional cGMP process testing.
